What duct cleaning does and does not do
Duct cleaning removes what is in the ducts: renovation dust, drywall grit, pet hair, debris settled over decades, occasionally a rodent nest. It is worth doing when one of those has happened. It is not an air quality system on its own — the filter does that continuously.
What cleaning cannot fix is duct design. If one bedroom never warms up or the registers whistle, the ducts are the problem but dirt is not, and we would rather measure and say so. Ducts leaking into a crawlspace, or lined with insulation gone soft with damp, need repair instead.

How often do ducts actually need cleaning?
There is no schedule worth following blindly. Clean them when there is a reason: after a renovation, after buying a house with an unknown history, when dust blows from the registers, or when there are signs of rodents.
Will duct cleaning help my allergies?
It removes settled dust and pet dander from the ducts, which some households notice and others do not. It is not an allergy treatment, and upgrading the filter is often the better first step.
Does duct cleaning lower my energy bill?
Not measurably in a normal home. Ducts blocked badly enough to restrict airflow are rare; leaking ducts and a clogged filter cost far more and are cheaper to fix. We would rather point you at those.
How do I know if my ducts have mould?
A musty smell when the fan starts is the usual first sign, and it often traces back to a wet coil or a duct through a damp crawlspace. Cleaning alone will not solve it — the moisture source has to go.
