The sink drain, the trap arm, the dishwasher hose, the garburator, and the shutoffs for the faucet all meet in the same dark box, and a joint that weeps a few drops a week is invisible until the cabinet floor swells and the toe kick lifts. That is the real reason kitchen fixture work is worth doing properly: the failure mode is slow, hidden, and paid for in cabinetry.
Drain connections are where do-it-yourself installations most often go wrong. A dishwasher drain hose needs a high loop or an air gap so waste water cannot siphon back into the machine; a garburator changes the geometry of the trap arm, so the drain often has to be re-cut rather than simply reconnected; and a fridge water line tapped with one of the self-piercing saddle valves sold in kit form will eventually drip behind an appliance nobody moves. We plumb all three to code, and the cabinet is left dry and checked rather than closed up and hoped for.

How much does it cost to install a kitchen faucet or garburator?
We publish no figures, but replacing like with like is a short visit and sits at the low end of what a plumber does. A new sink, a different hole configuration, or a drain that has to be re-cut moves it up, and a countertop change moves it up again. We confirm the price in writing before starting.
Can you hook up a dishwasher I already bought?
Yes — the water supply and the drain. The part worth doing right is the drain: without a high loop or an air gap, waste water can siphon back into the machine, which is both a health issue and the usual cause of a dishwasher that smells no matter how often it is cleaned.
Do I need a plumber to run a water line to my fridge?
You can do it yourself, but the kits sold for it usually include a self-piercing saddle valve, and those clamp onto a live pipe and corrode around the puncture over time. Behind a fridge nobody moves, that becomes a slow leak into the subfloor. A proper tee and a quarter-turn shutoff costs little more and does not fail that way.
My kitchen sink drains slowly — is that the fixture or the pipe?
If only the kitchen is slow and every other drain is fine, it is usually grease and food waste coating the inside of the branch line rather than anything wrong with the sink. Clearing it is a drain job, not a fixture one, and a camera pass will tell you whether the branch or the main is the problem.
Why does my garburator keep backing up into the other sink?
Almost always the trap arm. A garburator discharges lower and faster than a plain basket strainer, so a drain laid out for the old sink can push waste sideways into the second bowl instead of down. Re-cutting the arm at the right height and slope is the fix; a stronger unit on the same bad geometry is not.
How long does a kitchen fixture installation take?
Most swaps are done in a single visit. A new sink and countertop is scheduled with the counter installer instead, because the plumbing goes in after the counter is set and sealed.
